Our Founder, Joseph Piela

In 1932, Joseph Piela founded Piela Electric.  His shop was located above a small garage in the Poquetanuck section of Preston Connecticut.  Joe was a gifted mechanic and took great prided in taking old broken down pieces of equipment and getting them to run again.  With many textile mills in the area, his business prospered. He soon out grew the garage and in 1946 he moved his business to the former Halls Mill just a short distance away.  Here he began to stock power transmission equipment and motors.  He also opened a motor repair shop.   His sole proprietorship expanded to a family business.  His wife Grace, brother Albert and sons John, James and Joseph worked with him to meet the demands of his customers.  He took pride in stocking a wide variety of power transmission equipment which he sold to customers nationwide.

The business is currently owned and operated by the third generation of Piela’s; Joseph W. Piela, Judith Piela Yasi, and John Piela Jr.   We have occupied the Halls Mill building now for over 65 years.  Our inventory has grown, our motor shop has been expanded and been modernized.  We still operate under the same principles as our grandfather; providing quality service and materials to our customers at a reasonable price.  We are happy to provide cost effective solutions to your electrical and mechanical equipment replacement needs.
